Mission statement-

  • ● Mindful Mountain Yoga Cville promotes well being for our communities without ready access to mental and physical self care.

  • ● Regardless of health, we bring yoga, chair yoga and breath meditation directly into neighborhood spaces like public housing community centers, senior housing, medical and religious support groups, schools, parks and places where community is grouped together.

  • ● We believe in sustaining our yoga outreach into communities under stress by training a diverse population of new certified yoga teachers.

Vision statement-

  • Yoga practice is a doorway that connects people. We share a mind-body practice which allows openness both physically and emotionally, encouraging social, religious, political or cultural uniqueness to coexist. Understanding how we are all connected, let us see ourselves in each other. Our individual struggles are a common humanity. We bring this effort to a wider audience with our recorded classes to be shared with anyone in our community, accessible via a Vimeo and YouTube channel, or a hybrid In Person and Zoom class.

We see the need for our health and wellness efforts in our public housing communities, with other communities left behind in the growing income disparities in our town- seniors and disabled members on fixed incomes, substantial formerly incarcerated community reentering society, and our immigrant and growing refugee populations. Significant numbers of us serving as front line workers and school teachers are suffering from physical and mental stress, needing the opportunity for the self care. MMYCville can bring yoga to the workplace. We know these needs are reflected in our veteran community as well.

Open air yoga, safely distanced, began our outreach in the Spring of 2020. This has been a daily community yoga every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday since then. You can find us in Meade Park, winter hours at 9:30 am, late spring/summer/fall at 8:30 am. We wear layers when it gets colder but rain cancels.

With a variety of yoga movement and meditation classes, our non-profit mission can provide yoga benefits to local schools, day support programs, nursing home staff, media outreach, local medical groups, churches and organizations that serve. We support veterans, low income residents, especially members of our BIPOC community, and seniors. Continuing programs will include local people seeking refuge and refugees from abroad, people with mental stress or physical impairment and their caregivers.

Our Long Game

Mindful Mountain Yoga Cville is not only about physical range of motion and mental agility. Our practice of balance extends in ways that invite everyone, without criticism. Especially in times when we find communities separated into divisive political camps, religious exclusions and cultural disconnect, Mindful Mountain Yoga Cville finds ourselves as a refuge from judgement, a safe space where differences do not prevent us from sharing our practice together.
